Start of WW1

On 28th June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife, were shot dead in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip.

This marks the official start of the First World War, although Britain did not become involved until August 4th, when Germany invaded Belgium.

 

Looking for Men

We have dates of death for a majority of the names on the Memorial Gates, but there are some that we have not found yet.
Sometimes it is because the name common in the Rugby area and we can’t decide who is listed – only initials are given. Sometimes we just can’t discover who it is.
